Top Android Director Leaves for Coupons Inc.

One of the original software engineers for the Android platform has left the Google team for Coupons Inc.,  a company who designs software for creation, distribution and tracking of coupons.  Steven Horowitz was part of the Android staff from way back, having been recruited by Andy Rubin in 2006.

After “spending so much time and energy” on Android, Horowitz believes it’s a good time for him to move on.  Although he’s leaving Android behind, Steven feels good abut its future, noting that it is “at the beginning of transforming the mobile industry.”

In a sign of cool things to come, Horowitz said that he’s aware of other companies trying to port Android to devices that aren’t cell phones. This just helps confirm that set-top boxes, GPS units, gaming machines, netbooks, and more are coming down the road.

Good luck to Mr. Horowitz and Coupons Inc.
