Cupcake Alert! G1 Users to Get Firmware Update in April

cupcake21

Here are the words that many G1 users have been waiting to hear for quite some time…

“We will be offering G1 users the firmware update sometime in April.”

The folks over at Pocket-Lint are reporting that the lusted after firmware update is right around the corner.  If you’re new to Android or have been missing the boat altogether, “cupcake” is the development branch of Android that will see new features like on-screen keyboard, stereo Bluetooth, and video recording.

It could be timed with the release of the HTC Magic, which is now slated for April as well.  One thing is for sure – G1 owners will not be happy if Magic owners are able to record video and save MMS attachments while they are left hanging.  Let’s hope the update does happen… and soon.

With all due respect, the rc33 update gave us the ability to natively save MMS messages.

I believe it when I see it.

I’m with TheGirlInTheCafe* … I’ll believe it when I see it.

    * – I’m not actually with her – I don’t know her nor am I aware of which cafe she might be in. I do completely agree with her statement.

You know I’ve had the g1 since the beginning I went though the fact that the phone &software was all in beta version if I don’t get the update from tmoble & goggle I’m done with the both of them there’s other phone co
Out there and other search engines they both better realize they arnt the only fish in the sea I won’t be forced to purchase another phone by anyone and if they’re as smart as they like to say they got to realize I’m not the only one who feels this whey maybe they should change their name to googlesoft

As an early adopter, all updates are welcomed. I realise there are other phones out there that do more but the beauty of Android devices is that they will always get better. If the Magic gets more features, then the G1 will too. Bonus!

I’m tired of all the Google haters. Android is a beautiful platform, and The Big Don is right Android will always get better. With an innovative company like Google behind the development and support, in a year from now this conversation will most likely be a moot point. Android is new and a few kinks are to be expected. If Apple didnt insinuate a lawsuit in regards to multitouch and the headphone jack issue people would already be a lot happier. I am excited for the future of Android and the whole smartphone industry as a whole. Now with Android, Apple and the Palm Pre hitting the market, competition is likely to force everyone to produce a better product.

    Cheers everyone ;-)

Yeah I’m also weirded out about all the people making ultimatums “I’m done with Android/the G1 unless Google immediately provides feature X it does not currently support”. Lots of app developers thought an Android App would already be raking in acres of cash. Users demanding every feature discussed for the platform to be available immediately.

I guess it means people are passionate and hopefull about where Android is going. It is great how many communities have sprouted up, how much discussion Android generates, from user’s, developers and speculators.

I’m really enjoying Android. I wish my pc had something as graceful as Android “application not responding” message. I have a habit of redlining my machine, running too many simultaneous apps, browsers etc. I’m accustomed to opening my task manager and having to kill tasks that got too greedy.

I love ANR on Android :) It’s a little overzealous, but it’s no big deal to tell Android to wait a bit more. I wish my pc could as easily detect stuck processes, and kill them as cleanly.

    It cant come soon enough.

Will this run on the Dev phone? .. and keep it unlocked?

It isn’t that I’m a g1 hater it seams to me that you (mstck) completlely missed the point so maybe I should make it more simplified for u time and again I have seen software &hardware co . Hold off on tech products or release them to early in order to inflate their bottom line allowing them to take unrealistic profits from stocks etc personally I feel that this is a form of fraud when u take an overall view of this activety it begins to be painfully obvious that these people(co) have no social morals but on the otherhand it is nice to hear from an insider
