CTIA Wireless 2009, Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) March 31, 2009 — Top Global (www.topglobalusa.com), a leader in wireless convergence systems, announced today an initiative to develop an Android Gateway to extend Android applications to millions of existing Bluetooth phones and WiFi devices. The Android Gateway integrates Qualcomm’s latest 3G Gobi radio together with WiFi and Bluetooth for connectivity to multiple Bluetooth phones and WiFi Devices. The Android Gateway is software configurable to support all cellular standards including GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSDPA, HSUPA, CDMA 1x, EVDO Rev.0 and EVDO Rev.A. The same design supports multiple frequency bands including 850Mhz, 900Mhz, 1900Mhz, 2100Mhz, and works with all carriers around the world. The Android Gateway comes with built-in GPS capability thus LBS applications developed for Android can now be delivered seamlessly through this Gateway to millions of existing Bluetooth phones and WiFi devices.

Google introduced Android which builds on Linux to empower application developers to create more innovative mobile applications. Android as an open source-based, just-add-hardware application platform has overwhelmed the mobile ecosystem creating lots of innovative mobile applications that can only run on a few Android phones today. The lacks of Android devices have hampered the rapid proliferation of these new mobile applications, and there is a need for a gateway to deliver Android applications to millions of existing mobile phones.

Top Global is developing such an Android Gateway to bridge the gap between applications and devices. The Linux based Android Gateway ported with the Android software, and integrated the 3G radio to maintains the internet connectivity and interaction with Android Applications servers. Android applications can now be pushed to Bluetooth phone and WiFi devices. At the same time millions of existing Bluetooth phones and WiFi devices can be connected to the Android Gateway and use all the applications available or upcoming from the Android applications developers’ community.

Top Global patented the phone as a router technology several years ago, but the commercialization is limited due to the lack of flexible hardware and the proprietary nature of the phone OS. With the open Android platform, Top Global can now develop the technology to support a broad line of devices and applications. Moreover, Top Global was one of the first to program our 3G MobileBridge Gateway to gather GPS data then display on Google Map or Google Earth. Today, Top Global’s RCM (remote central management) server is able to display thousands mobile routers by their locations on Google Map which allows the system administrators to manage and track their assets.

Take a step further, with the Android Gateway, many innovation LBS can be easily delivered across a wide array of Bluetooth phones or WiFi devices. Imagine you are riding a cab somewhere in New York City. Top Global Android Gateway is installed in the cab supporting POS, digital signage, among other applications. You take a picture with your existing mobile phone. Your phone is communicating with the Android Gateway via Bluetooth or WiFi. The Android Gateway can authenticate and identify your phone and associates with your Gmail account, the GPS feature on the Android Gateway location-tags your picture then uploads the photo without your intervention to your Google account.

Your friends can now “follow” your travels with Google Earth from either their mobile phones or desktop computers with your permission. Say your final destination is the Empire state building, and you like to find a restaurant near by so you can meet up with your friend for lunch, the Android Gateway will communicate with an Android application server, get a list of recommended restaurants and their ratings, at the same time search for coupons, then the Android Gateway will push the info to your phone. If you pick the restaurant and accept a coupon, your friends will be automatically notified with an estimated time of arrival from your current position.

Top Global’s Android Gateway intends to bridge the gap between numerous innovative mobile wireless applications developed for the Android platform and the lack of Android devices.

"Top Global patented the phone as a router technology several years ago, but the commercialization is limited…" Fits the definition of a Patent-Troll. Patent whatever and see if it sticks in the future. Anyway, their product model gave me a big Yawn ! Why take all that trouble when your existing smartphone is capable of doing all that without a hassle.
