Strategy Analytics: 8 Million Android Handsets in ‘09

droid_armyAnalysts are starting to make some pretty bold forecasts for our favorite mobile OS.

Android is now in a good position to become a top-tier player in smartphones over the next two to three years.  - Neil Mawston, Strategy Analytics.

After selling 1 million G1 handsets over the first 6 months, multiple handsets are sure to push Android's numbers to the next level.  Next level as in 900% growth!* Given various hardware configurations from an ever growing number of makers, there's likely to be something for everybody.

Overall smartphone figures are expected to grow 10-20% over last year's 152 million sold.

*Yeah, we aren't 100% on that math either...  However both figures are impressive in their own right.
