ADC 2 Follow Up

android_dev_challenge_2Want to bone up on some apps that were submitted to the Android Developers Challenge 2 last week?  We suggest checking this thread over at Google Groups.  It’s emerging somewhat as an unofficial place for developers to share their apps and experiences.

We’ve compiled a few apps and links that might be fun to keep up with. Some have more functional websites than others, but each sounds like an app we’d check out!

Any other developers out there care to share links and descriptions?  How about screen shots and video clips?  List them in the comments below and we’ll do our part to help with a little extra exposure.

  • http://sites.iode.co.uk/openloopz Paul Drummond

Please add OpenLoopz to your list!

    http://decaf.9apps.net/

decaf is an application for managing and monitoring your amazon ec2 cloud. apart from all necessary functionality for interacting with your servers you have 2 other indispensable features
    1. a widget to graphically see what your cloud is upto in terms of cpu, network and disk
    2. push and pull monitoring of instances (the app checks your through amazon AND your servers can send alerts by SMS to decaf)

we are very proud and delighted about how the idea (from what you see in the site) and the app is received. werner vogels, cto of amazon had some really nice words for decaf.

it is different! but i believe it shows the power and possibilities of android…

    A World Of Photo: http://elsdoerfer.name/=photoworld

It's sort of part casual game, part social network. I say it's loosely inspired by "Spin the bottle", but with users "spinning" their phone, and played on the world map. You select another user by pointing in any direction, and the selected user makes a photo for you, then spins himself, and so on.

I thought it's a pretty neat idea, but it sort of still needs more active players before it actually starts working well.

    I submitted a musikCube-client: http://code.google.com/p/musikcube/
By installing a little musikServer on your desktop/server computer you can stream all your music to your phone.
It also includes a little bonus if you have the BPM-tags set in your mp3-files. Setting the phone to "workout mode" makes it automatically pick music with the same beat as the phone moves in. Like when your out running, it will pick music with the same pace as you are running.

Visual feedback is provided to allow guide user experience. It's a simple idea that really works well. Plus, it actually extends the battery life of your phone!
