FlyScreen re-enters Android Market

flyscreen_againThe complaints about the package size of the original FlyScreen release on the Market were heard by their development team. However, FlyScreenScreen is now re-entering the Android Market with a new file size. Here's what their development team had to say:

So we’ll start with an apology- we had copy-protection enabled, and didn’t realize the problems it would cause. First of all, it ballooned our 2.8MB app to a 7MB monster, and secondly, apparently causes force closures that are out of our control. For some reason, Google doesn’t allow publishers to simply turn it off. Instead, they make publishers un-publish the app (losing its rating and download numbers), and re-publish a new one.

So we decided to bite the bullet now, before numbers got too high. We are very sorry to all who have downloaded, and appreciate your patience in helping us fix this (and re-installing the new version). Existing users will get a widget notifying them of the change, with a link to the new FlyScreen in the Market. **NOTE: You WILL still need to uninstall v1.1.1, and just run v1.1.2. Again, we’re sorry, but better now than later.

Excellent news for the FlyScreenation! Now we can all enjoy FlyScreen with less bloating from the copy-protection, while also saving space for other apps we want to enjoy. Visit them at http://blog.myflyscreen.com/?p=316 or on Twitter. And remember to uninstall the old version before attempting to install the new one.

Here is an updated QR code for you to scan, sorry about the confusion from my first post concerning this release:

  • I deleted the old app, downloaded the new and it will not authenticate--some message about not authenticating my model phone (Dream). Weird, eh?

  • when I input my email for my username it's saying something about can only use digits???

  • Your phone number is your user name.

  • Really... not even a link back to their blog? That's just bad web karma. Id provide one but I'm on my g1 right now. And no comments in the mobile version :(

  • Downloaded it on my Hero. Signed up and got started. But nothing happens!

I see the rainbow colored background on my lock screen. I try to tap on a settings button, and I get a lock symbol on the screen asking me to double tap to unlock. I tried that but nothing happens.

If I press the home or menu button, I go back into my Sense UI. If I press the trackball button, I get the same lock symbol asking me to double tap.

    • Go into the Settings and hit the checkbox that says something about locking the screen.

  • I fixed this. It was actually just a mistake on my part to get the article up, as they forwarded it to me before their blog actually contained this info.

  • I don't trust FlyScreen.

You have to sign up to use this app. Well, ok, fine, I guess. But you have to use your phonenumber as username. My phonenumber?! FAIL!

I signed up anyway (with a fake phonenumber of course, otherwise I would never have signed up). Found out that I didn't want FlyScreen anyway, so I went to the website to delete my account, but...

You can't delete your account! FAIL!

Either FlyScreen has malicious intent (making you use your phonenumber as username, for text-spam or something?), or they are just incompetent in not having a way for users to delete their accounts.
