Verizon had to protect themselves from a loss. It has nothing to do with them profiting more. Furthermore, it's a CONTRACT. If people are so scared over a one or two year contract, they have the option to get the phone at full retail price. I checked with Verizon to see what the cost would be for the same thing and they told me it would run $180 with 150 less minutes.
