By the Way, Verizon’s DROID ERIS Arrives Tomorrow at $99

HTC DesireOfficial news out of the Verizon camp confirms much of what we’ve been reporting on for the last few weeks.  The HTC Droid ERIS  goes on sale tomorrow at stores around the country for $99 after a mail-in rebate and a 2-year agreement. Normally, this would be a bigger story, but Verizon’s decided to play it cool with ERIS hype and devote everything to DROID.

DROID ERIS is nearly identical to Sprint’s Hero, also made by HTC.  The biggest and most obvious difference being that Verizon’s offering their handset at roughly half the price.   Both give customer the ability to customize seven panels of the desktop screen with apps and widgets designed by Google and HTC.   As part of Sense, customer can also set up different home screens to reflect on the various needs throughout the day.  Preloaded “Scenes”  include Home, Work, and Play with a potentially unlimited number of ways to customize them.  Final specifications include:

  • 3.2″ capacitive touch screen
  • Trackball interface
  • 5.0 megapixel camera w/ auto-focus
  • 8 GB microSD expandable to 16GB
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and 3.5 mm headset connectivity
  • GPS, digital compass
  • Android 1.5/HTC Sense

DROID ERIS will be available in Verizon Stores and online at www.verizonwireless.com on starting tomorrow, Nov. 6, for $99.99 after a $100 mail-in rebate (debit card) with a new two-year customer agreement on a voice plan that includes an e-mail feature or e-mail plan.

Price is $299.99 less $100 rebate…leaving the price at $199.99 with Verizon Wireless. See droiddoes.com to verify (1) the price on the bottom left hand side of screen. As a Verizon customer, I called *611 to verify pricing & rebates, to assure I know what to expect… The $199.99 on the screen has already allotted for the $100 rebate!

That makes you the bearer of GOOD news, doesn't it? :)

When did $100 for a phone become a great deal anyway? Sigh, I need a new addiction!

How much room does it have for applications? Is it also 512 MB Flash like the Moto Droid?

Also, isn't calling the Moto handset just Droid and this one Droid Eris going to cause a lot of customer confusion? Seems like a bad idea to me.

I found the best site for the new Droids – Wirefly's site Friends and Family – it is not hidden very well and can be found at http://www.wireflyfriends.com – they have the Motorola Droid for $99.99 and the Eris for Free – not bad deals
