New Motorola DROID-Like Device Arrives… Or Does It?

unknown_motorola_droid1The folks over at Boy Genius Report were tipped to a couple of pictures of a new Motorola device. Looking like a softer version of Verizon’s Droid, it sports the same buttons across the bottom. According to BGR, the device has an 800MHz processor, though where that is confirmed is beyond us. They (and we) are waiting to hear more.

The back shows what is either a 5-megapixel or 8-megapixel camera with presumably dual LED flash. With only two pictures to go on so far, we can’t tell whether this is a slideout QWERTY or touch only device.

Meanwhile, the guys over at NowhereElse.Fr (translated) are calling FAKE on this.  They claim that there are too many similarities to other handsets for this to be legit, even going so far as to show side-by-side comparisons. It would be awful tough to photoshop smudges onto the phone.  Would anyone really even go through the trouble?

What do you think?  Is it real?  Where is it headed?

    Yup! that is a fake. But I like the fact that Android is interest by the others. So Android have a potentials to compete in Microsoft.

    Possibly fake, but I wouldn't be quite so quick to make accusations. If you recall, Boy Genius Report was the first website to post pictures of several Android devices (including the Motorola Droid) and presented information that turned out to be real. I figure they have some contacts helping them out. They have a reputation now and I doubt they would want to disappoint.

    What is anyone going to do with an 8MP camera on a cell phone?? I mean are we hooking this thing up to a tripod and taking panoramic photos or something…?

    @Mark,

    Such a camera may be useful sometimes. For example if you want to take a photo of a text or some notice etc. The more MP the better quality and readability you get.

    The new navigation application Google Maps is the result of close collaboration between Google, Verizon and Motorola. The application is offered as a beta version and advertising software and the role of murderer, and that only comes on the Droid, despite the fact that Android 2.0 will be integrated and provided on other phones. The software allows step by step guidance voice prompts as a free feature of Google Maps and Voice Shortcuts that lets you start an orientation to speak out commands like “Go to [destination].” Sport application traffic in real time, direct access to the latest maps and business information from Google Maps and Street View or satellite images to see its path scraps para orkut
