This has been one of the busiest Saturdays in recent AndroidGuys memory, but we’re not complaining. All the news so far has been of the good persuasion. If this next rumor proves to be true, it could be upgraded from good to great really fast. TmoNews is reporting that one of their tipsters passed along some HTC Passion news. According to them, T-Mobile will be launching yet another Android phone in a matter of weeks.
“…magenta has landed the “Google Phone,â€Â aka codename “Passion†(which we believe to be the HTC Passion, but again thats just the codename, but it makes sense) project with an expected launch in the first two weeks of January…”
Okay… two things. First, Passion and Google Phone are most likely two different things altogether. Whatever the gPhone/Google Phone ends up being , we’re pretty sure it’s not going to sneak in so quickly and under the radar. We’d expect Google or T-Mobile to make a considerably bigger deal about it if/when it materializes. This is not to say that TmoNews’ source is wrong. Many people still confuse Android phones with being “Google Phones.” Maybe this is the case.
We're giving stuff away to help celebrate our tenth anniversary. Are you in?
Secondly, we’ve heard a few times that Verizon is likely the carrier to grab the Passion, but the recently unearthed list of HTC code names tells us that there might be room for two versions. That list mentioned both a PassionC, and Passion model. Could the “C” indicate CDMA? Having two, similar codenames adds credence to T-Mobile possibly getting a new HTC phone soon.
