Alcatel’s OT-980 is Reminiscent of Palm Pre

Take the form factor of the Palm Pre and slide in the vastly superior Android OS – what do you get? Alcatel’s OT-980 handset, that’s what. Take a look at the video below of the smart phone and you’ll see what happens when you combine that slide-up design of the Palm with our favorite mobile operating system.  While the specs aren’t anywhere near spectacular, that’s likely the point.  The word is that this phone is aiming for entry-level and cost conscious buyers with price point at or below what HTC’s Tattoo goes for – about $300 before carrier subsidy.

Crap RAM. Crap battery. Crap camera. Crap “resistive” touchcreen= crap phone. This is the whole reason why the Nexus One exists. To encourage manufacturers to NOT put out crap phones. I guess it didn’t work.

To bad there will be plenty manufacturers trying to capitalize on the name itself by putting Android in all sorts of crappy devices. I think there will be a lot of it moving forward
