Google Gets Social With New “Google Buzz”

Today, February 9th, 2010, Google has yet another release for us(Android Users) that extends the abilities of your Android Device and Gmail account. This free service is called Google Buzz and is essentially another social networking medium. With Google Wave not making much headway, the introduction of Google Buzz to all Google Accounts combined with the simplicity of the service, Buzz may actually prove to be quite popular.  It is accessible through your online Gmail account or from any mobile phone. Buzz specific features include just some of the following:

  • Public updates and "buzz's" that can seen by friends
  • Updates can be made public to be seen by anyone
  • See nearby buzz updates
  • Comment on or Like friend's updates
  • See nearby buzz updates via a new layer in Google Maps for Android, iPhone, Nokia S60, and Windows Mobile
  • Read buzz updates about anywhere from the Places Page
  • Speak "post buzz" into Android Quick Voice Search on Android and iPhone
  • Location added to buzz updates
  • Pulls media/photos from links for fast and easy access

Not only will you be able to make status updates but you will also be able to share anything you want with friends such as Twitter, links, videos, pictures, and much more. For a chart of features supported on different mobile phone platforms see below:

Alas the only way to get your buzz on with Android 1.6 is via the latest Maps update. Even an iPhone has more options than donut users. Welcome to Irony, population Google.

Firstly, Google Buzz looks awesome!! On that note -- 2.0 or greater is bullshit. It's a fucking WEBAPP. I'm stuck with 1.5 :(

Anyone know of a Google 2.1 ROM for Magic 32A's?

It's become clear that what Google didn't think about is how to keep phones updated with the latest version of Android. That, to me, seems like a MASSIVE oversight and a huge hit to the viability of the platform.

Root your phones ninnys! I have buzz on cyanogens latest stable rom and apps2sd. I'm at 136 apps and counting. I have a g1 by the way.

It's only Android 2.0 or greater, and the table was later changed at the Google site to reflect this. Therefore, my HTC Hero running 1.5 and about 80% of the Android users cannot use Buzz. I can't even get the new version of Google Maps with my Android 1.5. So, all of these other types of phones actually have more access to it than my Hero.

Also, since I use Google for my Domain (or whatever it's called now), Buzz in not enabled for that, either. Despite my using Google for most everything, from email, phone, and docs, I haven't been able to even try out Buzz yet.

You can pot a new Buzz on 1.5/6 by changing your Gtalk status (assuming you have set it as a connected site in Buzz).

Also you can use the location feature through Latitude, see here http://www.google.com/buzz/bazjscott/XWVNuq3R4Rp/...
