Starting in March, Droid, Devour and Droid Eris handsets will be loaded with a special version of Skype Mobile designed for Verizon customers.  This software will give these users plenty of freedom as it pertains to making and receiving calls from around the world.

A few of the features outlined in the press release today:

  • Make and receive unlimited Skype-to-Skype voice calls to any Skype user around the globe on America’s most reliable wireless network;
  • Call international phone numbers at competitive Skype Out calling rates;
  • Send and receive instant messages to other Skype users; and
  • Remain always connected with the ability to see friends’ online presence.

Josh Silverman, chief executive officer of Skype, noted, “People want to take their Skype conversations with them wherever they go, whether it’s on a PC, TV or increasingly mobile phones. Verizon Wireless will give U.S. consumers the best Skype experience on mobile phones and will truly change the way people call their friends and family internationally.”

Aside from Android handsets, others to load Skype Mobile include Blackberry Storm, Curve, and Tour.

    This is pretty nice, but it would be really killer if Verizon let's you dump your minutes plan altogether, keep a data-only plan, and if the Andorid app can place calls with SkyeOut (which I think would be cheaper for many people).

    hey, that’s incredible and very exciting
    At times I just can’t believe how fast things evolve!

    nowadays when you procrastinate, you are just behind, and I mean really behind. When you have a great idea, don’t hesitate and just do it, because it is now -that things should be done.

    With Skype, yes it is great, there are a few reasons to it. here they are:
    – it is very cheap as we all know,
    – it is so widespread that people do interviews using it
    and interviews in our Internet Marketing industry are hot
    – there are many additional software programs that simplify the conversation on Skype or our marketing actions

    it is better when things are simpler!

    Thanks for the article
