Sprint Hero Getting 2.1 "First Week of May"

The highly anticipated 2.1 update for the HTC Hero on Sprint’s network has been rumored with various rollout dates for months now.  We received an email today from a follower who went straight to the carrier and asked about the 2.1 he was expecting today.  According to the representative he spoke with Hero owners should expect an OTA notification starting in the first week of May.

What follows is part of the chat transcript he passed along to us:

Agent (Jolly K): “Hi XXXX.”

XXXX XXXXX: “is there a HTC Hero Android upgrade today?”

Agent (Jolly K): “Let me check the updates.”

Agent (Jolly K): “I have checked the updates. Wait is over now. The Android 2.1 HTC Hero is being launched in the first week ok May.”

XXXX XXXXX: “it was supposed to be today?”

Agent (Jolly K): “I am sorry for misinformation. The updates says that Android 2.1 HTC Hero is being launched in the first week ok May

Yeah, right. Various Sprint reps (webchat and phone reps) have confirmed every rumored date that has come about. Not to mention they have put forth MANY release dates of there own "free will". I'll believe it when and if it ever its ever:
    A) …officially anounced by Sprint

    AND

    B) …I get the damn update on my phone

Until then, I'll go about believing my chances are greater to find the meaning of life, win the lottery and go on a date with Megan Fox all on the same day.

if you see me in HD I’m not as hot.

  • HunterA3

I wouldnt put too much stock in what a web rep says, but another Android site has screenshots from yesterday of Sprints internal website saying early May. It just doesnt show first week.

  • Bob

This is getting ridiculous. At this point, the next version of Android will well be out by the time 2.1 arrives, if ever.

Thanks for taking priority with older phones Sprint.

  • Blair

Why do sites keep posting this crap. Who the hell is Jolly K? I have seen so many “this guy talked to a Sprint rep and it will be released on XXX”. It’s pure hearsay. Like Scott said, I’ll believe it when it is officially anounced by Sprint/HTC or it is on my Hero.

  • Inverse137

WTF!!!! I bought this phone because I would have the update by November…I mean December…i mean February…I mean first week of April…I mean April 16th….

  • Stephen

Unless Sprint or Htc tweets a message I cant believe any phone or chat session that is posted.
What did they mean by "wait is over now " and what kind of name is Jolly ?

    • Lena

LLS I was just thinking that!

I got my hopes up for june, that way if it comes any sooner, I would be empressed. I am tired to waiting. I am tired of sprint. They told be I would have the update in nov when I got the phone, didn't know they were talking nov 2010.

  • yeah yeah

screw android and sprint im tired of waiting this phone is a bug filled mess as soon as the iphone 4g is released im leaving sprint

more rumors from the peanut factory. I will belive it when I see it.

Where is the damn update! Like this is just ridiculous that we have to wait for an update this long. I know ppl stated before we should be lucky we are getting a update and that there is a lot of phones that dont get that privilege but thats the whole damn point of me getting a android so I can get updates instead of buying a new phone every year SMDH. Technology is always improving but why does it seem like the bug fixes and updates involved w/ new technology is always delayed drastically.

  • tre

It seems right because the Android 1.6 update was just the same wit the g1 last year. But this update is taking much too long…I just joined Sprint in january & got the blackberry tour(hated it) then bought the hero at retail price out of anticipation of Android 2.1….smh.

If you would like to have Android 2.1 then download The .exe file from here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=
Once you download the file Simply connect your phone to your computer and double click the file you downloaded. There is no need to root the phone. Once done the phone might take a few min to boot up for the first time but it will work!!! I have done this on mine and it works great. So if you cant wait for sprint to continue to drag their feet with this update take the plunge.

In a nutshell, he finds that interior defenders (safeties and inside linebackers) are much more likely to be done by age 30 than perimeter players (cornerbacks and outside linebackers).

Sure, the red looks nice and the handset appears to be solidly built. Now, if we could just address that confusing looking keyboard before it hits shelves…
