Official: Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Will Get Android 2.1 in Q4

Good news for you Sony Ericsson fans out there – the Xperia X10 will be getting Android 2.1 later this year. Officially.  The Sony Ericsson blog tells us that a UXP update will roll out in the fourth quarter of 2010 for the entire X10 family of handsets.  Yes, this means the X10 mini and X10 mini pro as well!

Some examples of user benefits that will be included in the UXP upgrade for Xperia X10 in Q4 2010 are:

  • Upgrade to Android OS version 2.1
  • HD video recording as per the same execution as Sony Ericsson Vivaz
  • Wireless home connectivity via DLNA
  • Improvements to signature applications Timescape™ and Mediascape to make them even smarter and richer

Sony Ericsson will make the update available through their website at www.sonyericsson.com.  Android 2.1 will go a long way to put the Xperia X10 on the same playing field as other smart phones.  However, we can’t help but think it may still be a little too late for most people.  Keep an eye out for minor updates in the interim as they’re already scheduled for the next few weeks.

this is the phone just for SE maniacs, it doesnt seem to be any competitive to htc, new samsung or motorola phones, by q4 2010 there will be a few phones with android 2.2 so it wont be that exciting update…

    • Please. Froyo on X10 mini pro. what more needs to be said? sony should lift there game. and be markiting the x10mini pro as wifi hot spot as well as smart fone but it needs froyo to do that. so if its only software preventing a device from being capable of other functions then this is a complete let down for SE while other android users get froyo standered we don’t even know when or if X10 family will get it.

what is sony smoking? by then everyone will be crying (and rightfully so) that it doesn't have froyo. This phone is one of the biggest fails I have seen imo.

This is typical SE and the main reason I would never get an SE phone again.

Prediction: If SE still exists December 31, 2010, the firmware will get pushed back to Q1'11.

One year from now SE will be crying that they are not selling enough handsets and Sony Ericsson will cease to exist.

Selling phones as premium but with an outdated software core is not enough to survive in the accelerating handset market.

Who announced products on 2.2 for Q4 yet?
It seems that most of you are just eager to get the latest Google release without even caring of what's in there.

Can someone help answer this for me?

With an upgrade to android 2.1 , is it simply a software upgrade that can be uploaded to the phone if you have already purchased a SE phone with the 1.6 operating system?

    Many thanks

SE should aim for Android 2.2 in Q4 2010 – unless they like lagging behind competition……come on SE..you can do it !

SE is the best and yes if it comes up with Froyo 2.2 nothin…and let me be clear nothing will beat it…. its got the most amazing shape and the interface itself is very attractive and kinda gets you addictive….I am a freak for phones..and have HTC desire HD, Samsung nexus S and SE x10 xperia and no matter what other phones have as features…the most attractive looking and stylish is the SE x10 and nothing will beat it in design and cool interface 😉

SE you really need to invest as competition is harsh, but looking into it..I believe strongly that you would have a high IRR if invested in the latest softwares.

Hope to see SE better 😉
