Samsung Announces i5500 ‘Corby Smartphone’ for Italy

Samsung has announced their Android-based i5500 handset will be headed for Italy under the Corby umbrella. The Corby Smartphone runs Android 2.1 and features a 2.8-inch QVGA LCD touch display, a 2-megapixel camera, and support for 3G HSDPA 7.2 Mbps. The quad-band GSM phone runs a 600MHz processor and has all the other requisite Android offerings including WiFi, Bluetooth 2.1, A-GPS, and a microSD card slot supporting up to 16GB. The Corby Smartphone is targeted to a wider audience as it looks to bridge the gap from feature phone to high-end smart phones

Look for these to arrive in Black Ebony later this month on Italian carriers Telecom Italia Mobile (TIM) and Wind Telecomunicazioni SpA (WIND). The price tag of Euros 199 comes to around $237 US dollars.
