Droid X Listed as “Coming Soon” on Verizon Website

Ok kids, get ready for another round of the Droid blitz.  Verizon‘s website has officially listed the Droid X as coming soon.  If you are interested in learning more (who isn’t?) about the next generation of Droid, you can add your email address to the list.  Hovering over the device, we get confirmation of the 4.3-inch screen, 720p screen, and HDMI output.  I just happened to right-click on the page to view information and found two more confirmed specs.

“Be the first to discover the new Droid Touch equipped with a 8-megapixel camera, 1 GHZ of power, a 4.3” display and high-speed mobile browsing. Check out the Next Generation of Does with the new Droid by Verizon Wireless.”

Also interesting is the keyword of “Droid Touch”.  With all of the rumored names surrounding this device, Droid Touch never really came up.  There’s really not much left to say about this phone other than official release dates and pricing.  June 23rd cannot come soon enough.

    So… 720p screen…. what is the resolution?

    • nice graphic card and acceleration..

  • Matt M

Uh, yeah, how is it a 720p screen? If they're talking about length-wise, I'm going to be super pissed at them, and they should be embarrassed of themselves.

If it truly is a 720p screen, that will truly be something. I'd imagine it would be bordering on the pixel density of the iPhone 4, and on a bigger screen. We'll need more info on this one.

If it is a real 720P (1280 x 720) the pixel density at 4.3" diagonal would be just north of 340ppi. I think someone confused 720P output with a 720P screen resolution on the device.

    • Matt M

You're probably correct. There's really only three possibilities:

      1) They confused the screen with the HDMI output, like you said
      2) They're trying to get away with 720p when that's referring to the vertical resolution of the screen
      3) It actually is a 720p screen

#2 would be absurd for two reasons: because it's a lie to consumers and because there are other phones (the Nexus One, Incredible, and EVO, for example) that already have a greater vertical resolution (800) than that.

#3 would mean that the screen would have a higher pixel density AND a larger screen than the iPhone 4, which would just be fantastic 🙂

Please o please be 3 eventhough it's the most unlikely scenario

  • Matt

Verizon must have realized their goof, they changed the teaser page now to say "Captures 720p"

    • Matt M

Morons. And yeah, I forgot that possibility, that they meant to tout HD video capture. Although, I would assume that it outputs 720p video over HDMI. Well, I would hope it does… 🙂
