Hack Pushes EVO 4G over 30FPS Limit
About two weeks ago we reported on the framerate issue that plagued the new EVO 4G. For those not familiar, it was found that the new super phone was limited to 30 frames per second both in 2D (Canvas) and 3D (openGL) modes while last year’s HTC Hero was able to hit 54fps. While this didn’t matter to a lot of our readers there were some of you who were very unhappy with the findings.
Word out of XDA-developers this morning is that a hack has been found which gets the EVO up to the same 54fps and beyond. It goes without saying that there are certain hoops to jump through and specific criteria which must be met in order for this to happen though. For instance, this only works on select EVO devices. As it turns out there are two types/batches (002 and 003) out there and only the 003 works properly. HTC has a track record of releasing their source code for handsets so we fully expect to see them do the same for the EVO. At that point it’s widely assumed that hackers will find a much more common workaround.
