Samsung Galaxy S 2? Already?

The Samsung Galaxy S blitz has barely gotten off the ground around the world and yet Russian website Itrans (translated) is saying they have the first pictures of its alleged successor.  While we wait for our Vibrant, Fascinate, Epic 4G, and Captivate handsets to arrive, the rumor mill sees no reason in sitting back.  According to Itrans, the i9200 Galaxy S 2 will arrive early 2011 with some high end hardware.

  • 4.3-inch 2-Super AMOLED display with 1280×720 resolution
  • Bluetooth 3.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n
  • 2 GHz processor
  • 32 GB of internal memory, a slot for MicroSD memory cards up to 32 GB
  • 1 GB RAM, 4 GB ROM
  • 8-megapixel camera with autofocus and HD video recording
  • 3.5 mm audio jack
  • A-GPS, Accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor, ambient light sensor
  • Google Service (Android Market, Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, YouTube)

Based on the specs and suggested release, it’s safe to assume this would be running Android 3.0/Gingerbread. It’s hard to imagine this phone coming down the pipeline as quickly as the rumor suggests, but crazier things have happened.

It likely WILL make breakfast for you…if you don’t mind a little egg on your screen! You may just be able to fry an egg on the back of that hot little 2ghz processor!

      Wow! Sweet specs!

I have been listening to the groundswell — that both Motorola Mobility and Samsung are racing to be the first company to release a 2 GHz super-phone. Since gingerbread has been rumored to be released holiday 2010 it makes some sense why Motorola and Samsung are in a heated race.

To lend some additional credibility to the gingerbread rumors — LG is supposedly releasing an Android tablet by the end of 2010.

Awesome, glad to see both companies are racing to get to a rather arbitrary but marketable "2ghz phone". We all know build quality and SNAFU rates NEVER suffer when companies race things out the door…

Off the top o' me head: Palm Pre, HTC Hero, iPhone4…

I'd rather the companies took an extra 3 or 4 months and actually made a device that freaking worked when it was released. It's awesome to get a device on launch day, but it's frustrating as hell waiting 6 weeks (or 6 months!) for the carrier to release a patch that enables the 3.5mm headphone jack to actually transmit sound, or returning a phone 6 times because its sliding mechanism is junk, or it has no reception when you hold it like so…

@INsano I wholeheartedly agree with the comments above. If "whoever" releases this monster too early and without properly testing it, this will only supply certain other OS manufacturers (who shall remain signal-less, er nameless) with ammunition with which to disparage what they will in reality, be jealous of. Take your time and get it right , I say !!

^^ Yep @w7info totally agree.. battery alone would die in 2 hours!! 2Ghz proc, 1 gb ram, 1280×720 screen!! Comon.. very unlikely, me thinks if anything that is a tablet made to look like a phone!!…
