More Pics of the Galaxy PMP

The new Samsung Galaxy Personal Media Player has been outed again with some new pics. Although a bit blurry, it is has been said that many people overseas have them in hand, and the release of the device is imminent.

This is the unit Samsung is developing to be in direct competition with the iPod touch device, as it had specs very similar, and the tasking purposes are identical.  It will be running Android and have all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy S phones, but with some lower grade cameras in place, and of course no phone functionality.

No word on pricing, but check out samsunghub.com for more of the leaked images.

It seems cool n all, but depending on price, why not just go with one of the Galaxy S phones?

no data plan means it is MUCH cheaper

@mr land: the same applies to iPhone and ipod touch as well, isn’t it?

This is great. I have friends who aren’t quite ready to commit to a smart phone plan (and don’t really have great options where they live), but I’m sure they would love to get something like this.
Do we know if this will have the Android Market and such? I can only assume yes, though there’s been the whole issue of devices without telephony not getting that before…

If you click the source link and look at the 2nd picture,
you can see the icon of the market =)

This is great news. I wonder what storage capacity it will come with.

Hopefully they will at least offer a 32GB internal memory version with the option of expanding it with another 32GB microSD card.

Even better, imagine if they offered 64GB internal memory and with an option of expanding it via external memory card. It’d be awesome.

Few reasons to get this over iPod Touch et al:

    – Super AMOLED screen (superior in terms of video playback than anything out there including Retina Display).

    – 1GHZ Hummingbird processor

    – Music Quality (Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSe 3.0) possibly the best out there except for the (BBE Plus 3.3 from Cowon). Certainly miles ahead of anything from apple.

    – Video Playback support MPEG4, H.263, H.264, DivX, XviD, WMV, AVI, 3GP, Flash Video

    – Music Player support MP3, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, FLAC, WMA, WAV, AMR, OGG, MIDI
    FM Radio FM, RDS

    – Add to that an open OS like Android with WI-FI and you’ve got a winner.
