Sony CEO on Playstation Phone: “Where There’s Smoke, There’s Fire”

Sony Ericsson’s CEO, Bert Nordberg, was recently interviewed by the Wall Street Journal where he spilled a few details on the rumored PlayStation Phone. When pressed about the device, Nordberg said, “…there’s a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere.” And as to why the company has yet to release a smart phone bearing the Playstation branding, he added, “… I haven’t dug into that history, but the future might be brighter“.

Looking into early 2011 and Mobile World Congress, he teases us by saying Sony Ericsson will be making “noise” at the annual conference. While he could be referring to the ANZU/X12 phone we’ve seen recently, the following statement could be what cements the rumor for us.

Regarding launching a gaming-oriented handset, Nordberg says the challenge lies in lawyers negotiating rights with publishers. “I’m very glad that we work with a company like Sony, who actually knows how to do it.” Why bother making a statement like this unless that’s what’s going on back at the headquarters?

Why would you want something like this? Honestly I wouldnt get either one. I will never own another Samsung or Sony phone. Both are very good in other electronics, but seriously lack in the mobile sector. There are a ton of new phones coming out in the next few months (HTC, Moto, LG), don’t limit yourself to the worst two(2) manufacturers out there. HTC (Mecha) is who I will be going with, but Im on Verizon, so it all depends on what carrier you use.

the game store in theory well has ps games and besides I’ve had emulators since i had a g1 but alas playing them on an n1 makes me want to strangle myself. I now see why every one likes hardkeys.

At this point i may sell my N1 and get and NS then sell that and get a ps phone. I’m currently not on contract but tmo is my provider.
