US Cellular to Get the LG Optimus U

US Cellular has joined the ranks of the carriers who have gotten or going to get the LG Optimus, an Android powered low end smartphone.

Announced via a press release today, the LG Optimus U is going to sport the following features:

  • Android 2.2.  This is a win to have Froyo out of the box
  • 3.2 screen
  • Swype preinstalled
  • 3.2 MP Camera

The phone is free with an eighty dollar mail in rebate, so there is very little risk in picking up the unit if you are in the market for a new smartphone and a US Cellular customer.

The unit will be available on December 13th of this year, and will have all the Google goodies we have come to know and love.  Let us know if you will be picking this unit up in the comments.

Sony Prepping 9.4-Inch “S1″ Honeycomb Tablet

For the all the great stuff to come out of the Sony Ericsson camp these last few weeks, one thing we’ve yet to hear about is a tablet. And since they’ve turned things around in terms of Android smart phones, we’d expect they will use the platform for tablets too. According to Engadget, that’s exactly what they’re doing.

I believe the ball is in Verizon’s court on this one, not Samsung’s.
