Project Elite v4 ROM:Sleek,Stable & Fast
Last week I came across a great ROM for Motorola Droid 1 (a.k.a. “OG Droid”) tucked away in Droid Forums: Project Elite v4. Now, I usually flash the major ROM developers’ work (Cyanogen, Bugless Beast, Chevy and the others on ROM Manger) because of their history, and pass up the new guys because of fear of abundant force closes and buggy performance.
Well, I’m glad I took a chance on this one. Project Elite v4 by Greg Maahs (@actngrezy) is as sleek and stable as a ROM gets. Using Slayher 1.1ghz kernel with interactive governor allows for a cool CPU temperature and a nice boost in speed: the ROM’s benchmark on Quadrant exceeded 1.4ghz while running super smooth.
Along with the great overclocked kernel, Project Elite v4 includes the Gingerbread keyboard and icons, and updated apps. A good collection of themes is available for some more customization and tweaking. And you get a ton of features and mods in the Elite settings menu. (See screenshot gallery below)
In Elite Settings you will find:
- Switch boot animation
- Fix BusyBox
- God mod (allows any file manager to browse any files)
- Systems applications removal (Love it!)
- Full customization of notification bar colors
- Launcher Pro
- The ability to run scripts from Elite Settings
- And more: the complete changelog is here
The developer fully supports his ROM and is also working on a Gingerbread ROM for the Droid, but will not release it until it’s super stable.
Go and give this ROM a try. You will not be disappointed with this one.
NOTE: Wipe Data and Cache for a clean install. I flashed easily from CM 6.1.2 via ROM Manager with no problems, but always backup your current ROM before flashing. When applying themes make sure you restore the previous stock ROM backup before you apply a new theme. to avoid force close errors on system apps.
