Xperia Play Not Exclusive to Verizon

According to Sony Ericsson CTO Jan Uddenfeldt, the “Playstation Phone,” the Xperia Play, may launch on more than one U.S. carrier.

Uddenfeldt said that Sony Ericsson is excited about their new partnership with Verizon as part of a new focus by SE on the U.S. market, but that the Play is not exclusive to that Verizon, and could ultimately be available on multiple carriers’ networks.

In the interview with FierceWireless at MWC, Uddenfeldt also said that SE had learned from its previous Android devices how important it is to stay up-to-date with the latest version of Android, saying that “a year ago, the awareness of the importance of being on the latest Android release wasn’t in the company.” All their recently announced phones will launch with Gingerbread.

A writer at Phandroid.com pointed out to me that we all knew this already because they said that Verizon would be the “first” U.S. carrier not the only.
