Motorola Begins Prepping XOOMs for Flash 10.2 With Minor Update; Flash Arrives March 18

Motorola has begun sending out a small software update to their Honeycomb tablet, the XOOM.  These Android 3.0 devices will be receiving an over-the-air update designed to ready the tablet for the upcoming Flash 10.2 release.  Whether connected to Wi-Fi or 3G, users will see a notification over the next few days, advising them to download the update.

Verizon is also helping XOOM owners with the update, giving them a very specific date as to when to expect Flash. According to the carrier, the file will be available in the Android Market on March 18th, just a week from today.  Adobe has a blog post with details surrounding the update, which can be found on their site.

Here’s the part that will likely ruffle a couple of feathers… Motorola is telling those with rooted XOOMs that they must “restore it to the standard software load and relock your device to receive the notification”.  Yes, we know it stinks.  However, to make things better, Motorola now has a dedicated section on their forums, specifically for hosting the material needed to unlock / reflash / relock your XOOM.

EDIT: It should be pointed out that the Flash 10.2 that will hit the XOOM and other tablets is in beta form first.  So, once you have Android 3.0.1 on your tablet, look for Adobe Flash 10.2 Beta in the Android Market after March 18th.
