Sony Xperia X10 to Get Gingerbread

Good news for users who own the Sony Xperia X10 handset, according to a blog post on the Sony Ericsson Product Blog the handset is going to receive an update to Gingerbread sometime in “Q2/Q3″ this year.

The blog points to the work done on the Xperia PLAY, Arc and Neo handsets which has allowed Sony to move forward on a build for the X10.  A quote from the blog post:We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the XperiaTM X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year. We have heard your requests all along but until today have not been able to confirm this. The great work on our 2011 products XperiaTM PLAY, XperiaTM arc and XperiaTM neo actually has enabled us to start the work in a special project bringing Gingerbread to the XperiaTM X10.

Again, great news for Xperia 10 owners, let’s hope Sony can meet their deadline, since they put a date range out there. More on this as it develops.
