GroupMe celebrated the big 3.0 today (and then the big 3.0.1 for bug fixes) by going global with a slew of added features and enhancements sure to make users smile. The BBM-like group messaging app allows users to create and engage in conversations regardless of phone type. Although full SMS chat remains U.S. only, GroupMe is now available worldwide on iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone 7. Users of GroupMe 3.0 will enjoy new features such as:
GroupMe has taken the easiest way to start a conversation and made it a feature. Simply ask a question and let the conversation begin. You can direct your question towards a few people or whole groups. You can even share your questions on Twitter or Facebook.
GroupMe realizes you may not always want to share something with the whole group. That is why they have introduced “Direct Messages.” Simply press on a user’s avatar to begin directly messaging them. Starting today, iPhone and Android users will have the ability to send or receive direct messages (additional platform support coming soon).
Anything you can do in the GroupMe app, users can now do via the GroupMe website. The website is also optimized for mobile viewing, making GroupMe available to those who cannot get the app.
Along with these new features, GroupMe users will find that phone numbers are now private by default and the UI has been redesigned, including major optimizations, making the GroupMe app faster than ever before.
This is a great app for Blackberry converts and those looking for a BBM-like messaging app to fit their needs. GroupMe is completely free and offers many other features which you can check out by clicking on the Android Market link below. Happy texting!
