Samsung Announces Rugged Galaxy Xcover for Germany
Samsung has announced the first Android member of its rugged, all-conditions Xcover series today in the form of the Galaxy Xcover. Yeah… a real unexpected name, right? Specifications include Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 3.65-inch scratch-resistant display, 3.2-megapixel camera with LED flash and support for HSDPA at speeds of 7.2 Mbps. No, certainly not the biggest and best in Android but we bet its target demographic doesn’t care. Rather, they are more likely concerned with being able to withstand wind, dust, sand, and water. The Galaxy Xcover is listed as being able to withstand being submerged in 1m of water for up to 30 minutes. That should be plenty of hardware for plumbers and construction workers who need a little Fruit Ninja on their lunch break.
Other than an October launch in Germany, Samsung has not announced specific carriers or pricing.
