VIZIO Announces Update for 8-inch Tablet

VIZIO has announced a software update for their 8-inch VTAB1008 tablet today which includes improvements to battery life, overall speed, and universal remote compatibility. According to the press release, the update enables faster scrolling and UI gestures and improved graphics performance and comes quickly on the heels of the Hulu Plus announcement.

The key feature in this update centers around the device compatibility for VIZIO’s Universal Remote Control App. The allows users to turn their VIZIO Tablet into a central hub for entertainment control as it handles upwards of 95% of all CE devices in North America.

“VIZIO’s dedication to providing Entertainment Freedom For All™ has led us to continually work to develop faster and more accessible ways for consumers to enjoy their content,” said Matt McRae, Chief Technology Officer, VIZIO. “The VIZIO Tablet is a great platform for innovation and we are excited to be able to continually deliver enhancements that will set the VIZIO Internet Apps Plus™ user experience apart from any other.”

I got mine on Saturday and two updates came through as soon as I was online. If there’s another one already today, that’s fantastic! It’s been great for me. Amazing speakers, and gaming is more fun than my myTouch due to the larger screen. Battery life so far has been longer than I expected. Overall I’m pleased with my purchase.

No that should be it.  My wife has had hers for about a month and the same two updates came through yesterday as well.  She loves her too.  I loved the price.

Got mine this week.  Updates came Friday automatically.  Over-all great value.  Battery life seems short. No where near the 11 hours they brag about.  Anybody got ideas about battery life.  I toned down the screen.  Fig8ured out to shut the unit off completely at night.  Still seems short.  Also a very long time to charge (5-6 hours).
