HTC Runnymede Poses for Close-up Press Shot – “That’s One Big White Boy”


Two weeks ago we brought you some info and a small pic of HTC’s up-and-coming Runnymede (who comes up with these names?) device. The device which is set to feature an “all-round mind-blowing multi-media experience,” is equipped with one of HTC’s largest smartphone screen sizes to date, 4.7″! While I envisioned a behemoth of a phone, it wasn’t until PocketNow got their hands on a close-up press shot that I found myself saying “That’s one big white boy!” The Runnymede and its 4.7″ screen brings into question “how big is too big,” for a smartphone? I’m starting to feel like smartphones are becoming tablets, while tablets are becoming monitors, while monitors are becoming TVs and — my eyes hurt.

The Runnymede seems to be filled with many “what were they thinking” specs. Besides the gigantic screen size, it will only be sporting an 800×480 WVGA resolution, it will have a 1.5 GHz processor but only a single core, it’s going to be sold in two different storage capacities (16GB/32GB), and to top it all off — it’s white, with beats by Dre!? I’m prophesizing an Eminem commercial! On a more sane note, it is supposed to have some kick-ass camera hardware.

    Resolution for a 4.7″ WVGA screen only 800×480 AND a 1.5GHz SnapDragon single core processor while the trend is an IPS screen and Dual-Core Processors! I think not.

    Give me an IPS screen with the dual-core – perhaps a QUAD-CORE (just around the corner) then I wouls seriously think about it. What would stop me from buying it – WHITE, I mean frigging WHITE?

    If I wanted an iClone looking piece of shit I’d just go and grab that instead. Who wants a “wanna be” when they can have the real deal albeit an iClone? What are they thinking. Stick to what works and simply be “Quitely Brilliant” don’t try and be the other guys…be HTC! That is why I buy your products because your HTC not crapple.

    As for the 4.7″ – I think that’s the sweet spot anything more goes into the mini-tablet class. I’m bored with a 4.3″ screen and I want whatever phone I buy to ba an upgrade. Having a 4.7″ screen would defintiely have that upgrade feel to it.
