Amazon rumored to offer 8.9-inch tablet before quad-core Hollywood arrives

Word on the street this morning is that Amazon is set to introduce a third model in their Android-based tablet line in the new year.  Expected to arrive before the 10.1-inch quad-core  ‘Hollywood’ tablet, this new model will come with an 8.9-inch display size.  According to a DigiTimes report, Chunghwa Picture Tubes and LG Display have already begun working on supplying the new panels.

The 8.9-inch display should still allow for a very portable experience, however the larger screen size may help Amazon to counter Barnes & Noble and the growing Nook line.  Price could stay low enough for people to consider a larger display without pulling too much out of their wallet.
