Don’t close the book on the NOOK Color just yet. Barnes & Noble is keeping with their promise to continue improving and updating content for its popular NOOK Color. Today they have announced software update 1.4.1 for the NOOK Color, and with it comes a few features that some of you clever folks may already have:

  • Access to popular movies and TV shows streamed through Netflix.
  • NOOK Comics including the largest collection of Marvel graphic novels – with vivid colors & rich images, the action nearly jumps off the page. Your issues always in perfect condition to enjoy again & again.
  • PagePerfect NOOK Books – a whole new category of NOOK Books carefully crafted to keep the precision and beauty of their stunning print versions. Zoom in on pictures, and fluidly scroll through pages of beautiful cookbooks, art books, and more.
  • Over 100 enhancements, including reading NOOK Books in portrait and landscape modes, direct look-up of words in the built-in dictionary, increased font size selection, and more.

Well, I’ve installed 1.4.1 and NetFlix is NOT available through the app store. I called Barnes and Noble and tech support told me they were still having problems with it and they will fix this release sometime in the next 2 weeks. He did not seem surprized at all that Netflix or the other upgrades did not work. He did say that once the update is really fixed, the Nook Color will be identical to the Tablet. He said the only difference between the two was software. Not sure I believe that, but would like to be impressed by B&N. So far, 1.4.1 does not appear to be the cure.

Updated my Nook Color last night through the PC…. Needed to be patient because the update didn’t show up immediately after transfer. The instructions are on the Barnes and Noble website under “Nook Color” or you can wait for the push through WIFI. I would not recommend waiting for the push because it  may take awhile (Christmas time and people buying and updating their new nooks). Netflix is not given straight through the update. YOu still need to download it through the appstore (free).
