Enchanted Realm: great time-killer from Game Insight

If you’re big into Facebook games like Farmville and Frontierville, then you are going to love this new release, Enchanted Realm. Users get classic gameplay that allows them to “click to build” their own city. In the expansion of your kingdom you also plant and harvest crops, upgrade existing buildings to keep up with growing needs, (larger market per population, larger storehouses per size of harvest, etc).

For the first two hours, you’ll be totally engrossed in starting your kingdom and gaining the love of your subjects. However, if you get addicted to this type of game easily, you’ll want to take it slow, because after the first two hours of medieval fun, you will hit a stopping point and have to choose one of two paths. You can put the game on hold and fling some Angry Birds around for a little while, or you can whip out your credit card and buy more energy or coins, so you can continue with your game. Since it is a free game, that is a small price to pay for something that’s so polished and nicely put together.

I’ve been messing around with it, and have found myself picking it up here and there and checking on things just to keep the ball rolling in my fairy tale land. It’s definitely a fun way to spend a couple of minutes of down time.

In the first five days following the game’s release, it was able to garner over 200,000 players. Aside from the issue of running out of energy relatively quickly in the beginning, the only real downside is that Game Insight missed a brilliant opportunity for a great MMORPG, as the game is only single player. Even with those small hindrances, on day 2 of the U.S. launch, it was already the 40th popular new free app in the Market, and 147 of all free games. It now ranks in at places 17 and 60 on those lists, respectively.

Overall, I recommend the game for the casual player like myself who just wants to kill time, and for the more intense role-playing gamer who’s willing to pay for progress. No one will be disappointed with this new release.
