Despite having to deal with a multi-billion dollar loss for a failed T-Mobile buyout, AT&T has to be feeling pretty good about themselves.  The carrier today announced that they moved a record number of smartphones for the last quarter of 2011, nearly doubling Q3 and 50 percent better than the next best quarter.

Breaking things down a bit, the iPhone accounted for more than 7.6 million out of 9.4 million smartphones. With about 2 million other devices split among Android and other platforms, AT&T indicates that it sold more than twice as many Android handsets in 2011 as compared to 2010.

With a bunch of Android ready to roll out of the gate in the early months of 2012 we cannot help but feel a little optimistic about AT&T this quarter.  Are you looking to switch over to AT&T this year?  Any particular handset that you’ve got your eye on?
