Intel’s Atom processors now support Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Intel has confirmed that it has finished porting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to its Atom mobile processors. Until recently, Intel’s processors were only equipped for Android 2.3 and Android 4.0, so it’s nice to see support for the latest release.

“I’m running it…We can’t put it on the phones. We have to give it to the carriers to put on the phones and they go through acceptance testing.” Mike Bell, VP/GM mobile computing group

While this doesn’t mean a company is ready to announce an Intel-based phone with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, it does free them up to announce support for a future upgrade. Take the new Motorola device expected next week, for instance, and its presumed Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With the official support for Jelly Bean, it gives them breathing room and something to add to a press announcement.
