It’s a new month and that means it’s time for some Android figures.  As often is our wont, we take a look at what versions of Android happen to power the millions of devices around the world.  According to official figures collected through October 1, 2012, we see that 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and 4.1 Jelly Bean now collectively account for 25.5% of Android devices.

While it’s easy to point at the fact that 4.0 has been out nearly a year now and Jelly Bean is already a few months old, there’s a lot more going on under the surface.  You might expect to see a higher saturation point for the newer stuff but the fact remains that there are oodles of devices still being sold with 2.3, Gingerbread.  Of course, updates are expected for many products, however some will get left behind over time.  That said, 4.1 Jelly Bean is gaining traction, and has risen to 1.8 percent of the pie since last time we checked.  Not bad when you move 1.3 million products per day.

On the other hand, we cannot dismiss the fact that a nearly-two-year-old platform (Gingerbread) still outnumbers the latest stuff by roughly 2:1 ratio.  Oh, and how ironic is it that Eclair (2.1) outnumbers Honeycomb (3.X) today?
