New, easier way to sign up for Facebook Messenger for Android

Facebook, wanting to steal you away GTalk, SMS, and other message apps, today announced a new way to sign up for Facebook Messenger for Android. Now, instead of requiring you to log in with your Facebook credentials, you can jump right in with a name and phone number.

This feature will be rolled out to Android users in India, Indonesia, Australia, Venezuela and South Africa with other countries following shortly after.

This move out to help pull in younger users (under 13) who cannot yet create a Facebook account yet have a phone of their own. Hook ’em young and they’ll turn to a full-on Facebook experience when they’re old enough for an account.  You kids are waiting until you’re 13, right?
