Sony announces entry-level Xperia E for early 2013

Sony today unwrapped its latest Android smartphone, the Xperia E, putting it on the calendar for early next year. Available in single SIM and dual-SIM (Xperia E dual), the phone is an entry-level device with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Hardware details include a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 512MB RAM, 3.5-inch (320 x 480 pixels) display, 3.2-megapixel camera.

“Consumers looking to take their first steps into the world of Xperia smartphones would be well advised to look at Xperia E or Xperia E dual. They are perfect for those seeking affordable access to the quality and functionality more traditionally associated with high-end Android smartphones,” said Calum MacDougall, Director Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications.

Digging deeper into the experience, the Xperia E features HD Voice, the WALKMAN app with xLOUD technology, and access to the streaming service Music Unlimited. Like most devices out of Sony, the smartphone can connect to TVs, PCs, and tablets via DLNA.

The release date is only slated for Q1 2013 and there are no carriers mentioned in the press announcement. We suspect we may ultimately get an unlocked version in the United States however all of this will become clearer as the new year gets underway.
