The HTC “phablet” is real, and it’s coming

Earlier today I mentioned HTC’s recent ego-boost, and their plans to take on Samsung once again with a line up of three new devices in the future. One of those devices mention was referred to as HTC‘s uniquely dubbed “phablet.” Well ladies and gents, I am happy to give you a little more detailed information about this interesting device.

HTC T6 InfoHTC is indeed working on a so-called “phablet-class” smartphone with pen-based input, in an attempt to challenge their biggest competitor. The T6, as it is code-named, is a 5.9-inch full HD device, powered by a Qualcomm MSM8974 (aka the Snapdragon 800.) It is rumored to include BoomSound speakers and an optically-stabilized UltraPixel camera in the back. It will also have 2GB RAM (storage may be as low as 16GB,) with a microSD feature to help soften the blow. Need that front-facing camera? Don’t worry, as it is said to offer an impressive 2.1-megapixel, wide-angle configuration. It should be no surprise that Sense will be on HTC’s largest handset, but it will be updated with a version of BlinkFeed said to incorporate more partners, more customization options, and the ability to save content for offline consumption.

On top of all that, not only are we hearing that HTC is selecting their pen in a very careful manner (we’re not quite sure if Scribe is powering this device,) but HTC is also looking at including biometrics, in the form of a fingerprint reader, to the table as well. From what we have heard they are being smart about it, and mounting the sensor on the back of the tablet, so that it instantly turns on when it is handled.

Impressed? Wait until you read this. The T6, due to launch in late summer or early fall, will supposedly run Android Key Lime Pie under the hood. Take that with a grain of salt however, as the newest version of Andy isn’t expected to be released until the end of this year. With all of these new pumped-up features from HTC we must ask: Is your interest piqued?

Cool. My next phone will probably be this or a Note 3, depending on the reviews.

More than likely fake. Do you really think that Google would let HTC release anything to do with key lime pie or 5.0 when they haven’t even said a word about it themselves? The nexus 4 is currently their flagship phone any news on KLP etc will be about the nexus 4 and 7 (or maybe nexus 5? I doubt it but we can always hope). Not a HTC phone.

Phablet is the stupidest word ever invented.

Much applauds to Htc it’s great to see rookies in this Phablet space. I will be purchasing the Galaxy Note 3 period Samsung owns this space period.

If HTC produce a closed back gadget with a non removable battery or without a slot for an SD Card and if there is no pointed tip stylus in the scheme with good software to match ..then…THAT WILL BE COOL.. then it will be easy for me to stay with Galaxy Note 3 as my next PHOBLET…. The same goes for Sony an Nokia……don’t make it difficult for me to wrench myself away from Samsung GN3.. .. So far Samsung Galaxy Note 1 and 2 have kept me happy…. I hope very much to look forward to GN3….MAKE IT AN AMAZING NOBLET SAMMY…

  • My interest wont be peaked for ANYTHING htc until they figure out how to update a damn phone on time, and not just say they will update it, then cancel the update or make you wait 8 monthspast the promised update time to actually get it. I love HTC phones and even sense, but they are not getting another dime from me til they fix this crap.
