After bumps in road, Wikipad finally arrives June 11
It may have taken a bit of time, some minor product changes, and a few hurdles, but the Wikipad is finally ready for its retail debut. The 7-inch gaming tablet experience will arrive on June 11 with a retail price of $249 in the United States; a global rollout is expected later this summer.
Built with mobile gaming in mind, the Wikipad features a 7-inch display, 16GB internal storage (microSD expansion), a front-facing 2-megapixel camera, and HDMI output. Powering things along is NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 processor and an NVIDIA GPU.
In terms of pre-loaded software, the Wikipad runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has access to Google Play Store, TegraZone, and even Sony’s PlayStation Mobile titles.
For those who don’t want to always be playing graphic-intense first-person-shooters, the gaming controller can be detached for a more traditional 7-inch tablet experience.
First retailers will be Wal-mart.com, Bestbuy.com and TigerDirect with additional retailers and launch dates for other markets outside the US coming after E3 wraps up.
