Samsung exec confirms Galaxy Gear to debut Sept 4
Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Gear smartwatch at the September 4 Unpacked event, according to a high-level executive within the company. Lee Young-hee, executive vice president of the South Korean company’s mobile business, tells The Korean Times that the “wearable concept device” will debut alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
“We will be introducing a new wearable concept device called Galaxy Gear at our own event in Berlin on Sept. 4,” Lee said this week. “The new device will enhance and enrich the current smart mobile experience in many ways. It will lead a new trend in smart mobile communications. We are confident that the Gear will add meaningful momentum to the mobile industry.”
With Apple, Google, and a host of other players stepping into this field, we’re anxious to see what Samsung does to stand out. While many of these devices pair via Bluetooth to our phones, we would love to see something that operates on its own.
We’re days from officially learning what Samsung does in this space so it’s possible we could hear some last minute leaks or see some press renders surface in the lead-up.
