Sony intros Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact

Sony, as expected, unveiled its latest flagship line of smartphones and tablets at an event in Berlin, Germany. The hardware maker on Wednesday introduced the Xperia Z3, the Z3 Compact, and Z3 Tablet Compact.

Sharing a number of hardware and software features, the new line offers users best-in-class waterproof and dust proof phones and tablets. The trio boast Sony’s Omnibalance design language and feature tight PlayStation 4 integration capabilities.

The Xperia Z3 is the flagship model and includes a 5.2-inch full HD display, a gentler curved aluminum frame, and a 20.7-megapixel Exmor camera with G Lens. Powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, the phone also squeezes in 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, and microSD expansion for up to 128GB space. Oh, and then there’s the 3100mAh battery which Sony promises to be worth two days of juice.

The Xperia Z3 Compact is mostly identical save for key changes such as the 4.5-inch 720p display, 2GB RAM, and 260mAh battery. The camera, while also 20.7-megapixels, is not capable of the 4k video recording that its bigger counterpart can.

Over on the tablet front, the Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact features an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 pixel display, an 8.1-megapixel rear camera, and 16GB internal storage. Toss in the microSD expansion card slot (up to 128GB), the 2.5 GHz quad core processor, and 3GB RAM and you’ve got a beauty of a device.

Reportedly, the Xperia Z3 will be offered in the United States via T-Mobile. As for other carriers it is not clear. It does not appear that the Z3 Compact will arrive stateside anytime soon.
