How to use copy and paste [Android 101]

It’s something that Android has had since Ice Cream Sandwich, but may not necessarily be something that every user is aware of – so let’s go through just how to copy and paste on Android.

Whilst the process and icons used by different handset manufactures may differ slightly, the concept of press and hold is pretty much consistent across most, if not all, Android devices.

So to copy and paste, simply find the block of text of interest, and long press somewhere inside it. You’ll see a white menu bar now appear at the top of the page with a variety of icons, as well as some blue tabs that indicate the highlighted text. Simply drag those tabs to the beginning and end of the phrase you want to copy.

Once you’re happy with the selection, using the icons in the top bar, select from (left to right) either select all, copy selected text, share selected text, or search the selected text.

Pasting is a similar exercise whereby you long press on the destination for the text and once again the white bar will appear. Hit the paste button that pops up to insert the text.
