It happens. You drop your phone. It gets wet. Life gets in the way. And, sadly, for a lot of us, this sort of thing happens within the first year of owning a smartphone. HTC, recognizing this, and seeing an opportunity, has introduced a terrific new program to address this situation.
Called UH OH Protection, it’s a service plan that comes free of charge with HTC’s smartphones. Essentially, it works like this: if your HTC One M9 ends up with water damage or a cracked screen in the first year, HTC will replace it for free. Period. What’s more, HTC will even extend you a free replacement should you switch wireless providers in the first 12 months.
How does it work? Simple. You reach out to HTC either through phone or chat. From there you have two options:
- You have a replacement model sent to you the next business day; HTC will hold $299 on your credit card until they get your old one back.
- You send the damaged device in first and HTC sends you a new one within two days of receipt. No credit card holds required for this option.
For those of you who make it through the first year without any UH OH situations, HTC has something special for you, too. Customers who do not take advantage of the program automatically receive $100 towards the purchase of a future HTC One smartphone.
HTC is launching the UH OH Protection program with its One M9 smartphone, which is expected to go on sale shortly. Additionally, HTC One M8’s purchased between March 25 – August 31, 2015 will be eligible, too.
