And here we go yet again. T-Mo news is reporting today that all you proud owners of a Cliq XT are getting the shaft when it comes to being upgraded to 2.1. Here is the official quote as to why from the Motorola Forums:
For those of you who were concerned, T-Mobile's official follow-up to the Cliq is available today. Customers can grab one for $99 a pop, after a $100 mail-in rebate and two-year service agreement. Although it does have Motorola's signature fingerprint on it with MOTOBLUR, we still found the device a more than worthy successor to the Cliq name, besting it all around.
Confirming recent rumors, Motorola and T-Mobile have officially announced the CLIQ 2, a 1 GHz landscape slider with a 3.7" screen and a funky, reptilian keyboard. Like its predecessor, it seems intended for the middle of the market, but unlike the original CLIQ, includes a lot of enterprise friendly features. It is not an HSPA+ phone.
Motorola and T-Mobile appear to be prepping a follow-up to their Cliq with a nearly identical looking device, dubbed the Cliq 2. Not a great deal has changed in the design department, save for an ugly looking keyboard that resembles alligator skin.
For those of you using the Motorola Cliq or the Backflip, we have some great news for you! Motorola is confirming that Android 2.1 is now officially available.

A posting on the Motorola support forum says they are are rolling out a trial release of Android 2.1 ahead of the official update in order to get feedback and help ensure users get the best experience.

You may recall that way back in July the folks at AndroidSPIN were able to get their hands on a copy of T-Mobile's year end roadmap. Among the listed Android devices were two from Motorola. With one handset (Jordan) already accounted for in the Motorola Defy, the other has yet to be figured out. According to Engadget, the Project Begonia phone will be the T-Mobile Cliq 2.
Apparently, it's not just us common folk who are up in arms over the Motorola Cliq and its lack of a 2.1 update. It appears Hitler is also one of the few unfortunate souls waiting on an announcement or update. Things are getting so bad that he is considering switching to Windows Mobile or rooting.
The Motorola Cliq has gotten some Android 2.1 love sooner than we thought. According to an anonymous tipster, there's a leaked ROM floating around...
