UK to get Galaxy S 2 May 1
It has been interesting to see the release process for the Galaxy line of devices from Samsung, releasing first in the UK and other overseas destinations (excluding Japan and China which seem to get all the cool toys first). Samsung has announced today that they are keeping in that tradition by reporting via press release that they will be releasing the Galaxy S 2 on May 1st in the UK. Successor to the very popular line of Galaxy handsets, the S 2 brings with it more processing power via a dual core processor, plus an upgrade to the Super AMOLED screens, called Super AMOLED Plus. As far as the flavor of Android, we know it is Gingerbread, but it is sure to be “touchwiz-ed” out.

Today’s “DUH” Moment: Sprint Officially Opposes T-Mo/AT&T Merger
You can file this one in “totally obvious” bin. Sprint put out a press release today, stating their official opposition to the proposed AT&T/T-Mo merger. Like we expected them to say, “Hey, this is a GREAT idea! Go ahead and merge together these two carriers so we can be an even more distant third in the US!”

Rumor: Google Working on Nexus Tablet?
There is an interesting rumor/line of thought from an article over at unwiredview.com, talking about some conversations and rumors the author has heard concerning the idea that LG is working with Google to release a “Nexus Tablet”, branded by Google itself. The reason the rumors are floating around it seems is because we have not seen the full honeycomb experience yet, and there is conjecture that we will when this Nexus Tablet releases. It is plausible to imagine that Google has some functionality in Honeycomb that we have not seen yet, whether or not it is because they have been holding said functionality back may be a bit of stretch in this writer’s opinion.

AT&T Statement: “T-Mobile Customers Will Have To Replace 3G Handsets After Merge”
This is getting a bit concerning, Yahoo Finance is reporting that AT&T has made a statement saying that T-Mo customers who have 3G handsets will need to have their devices replaced if the recently announced merger goes through. The reason being that once the acquisition is finalized, AT&T plans on reconfiguring how the current T-Mo towers work, re-purposing them for 4G service in an effort to increase the speed of their network overall.

Get Your Swap On With Swappa.com
I have a feeling with the recent announcement about AT&T’s acquisition of T-Mobile, there are going to be a lot of people that are going to be looking to switch to one of the CDMA carriers, and that means a device change. Only problem is, those pesky two year contracts can make it prohibitive to make the change, especially when you stack the cost of a new device on top of an early termination fees. There is a site out there that looks to help with this problem by providing a marketplace to sell, buy and trade your “lightly” used Android device
