American Red Cross, Dr. Oz and Sharecare Launch Life Saving Android App

Summer is almost upon us. ‘Tis the season for traveling, outdoor activities, fun in the sun, and injuries! Wait, what? That’s right! More accidents occur during the summer months than during any other time throughout the year. While many organizations such as the American Red Cross and YMCA offer first aid courses during the summer, not too many of us have the time or motivation to sign up. There is however one thing we seem to always have time for and that’s our beloved Android smartphones. This trend is exactly why the American Red Cross decided to team up with Dr. Oz and Sharecare to produce an app which would help give us smartphone users a quick and easy way to access emergency care information (should we need it). Introducing “S.O.S by American Red Cross.”

“S.O.S by American Red Cross” covers over 50 of the most common emergency care situations and supplies users with important information, step-by-step guides, videos, and narrative on how to perform life saving tasks such as CPR. All narrative is done by renowned surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz and is accompanied by visual instruction via video or 3-D animation. Another handy feature is the 9-1-1 dialing that auto-launches a map with location information to better assist emergency dispatchers. Emergency situations can be very scary and hectic and we don’t always have the mindset to stop and think. Thankfully “S.O.S by American Red Cross” comes with a default setting to automatically start should you or anyone else dial 9-1-1 from your phone.

This is one of those apps I believe every person should have on their phone. It’s free, and even if you’re the type who doesn’t want to “get involved” or feels this information should be “common knowledge,” having such an invaluable resource at your finger tips is worth every MB it takes up. Go grab it now and hope you never have to use it.
