Coming hot on the heels of this week’s Nielsen report is another study which shows Android’s momentum through the second quarter of this year. Brace yourselves… For the first time since Q4 of 2007, RIM is no longer the top smart phone OS. Android has leapfrogged both Apple and RIM and is loaded on one out of every three smartphones sold at retail. Our favorite platform accounted for 33 percent of all smart phones sold last quarter. Yes, even the quarter which saw the launch of the iPhone 4. Huzzah!
There’s not much time to sit around and hand out fist bumps and high fives. RIM just announced their new handset and OS this week and will do everything they can to make sure you hear about it. The top five Android phones sold, according to NPD: Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Incredible, HTC EVO 4G, HTC Hero, and HTC Droid Eris. Not one AT&T or T-Mobile device to be found in the group.
