Google aiming for RAW image support in Android

Google is prepping a new camera API for stock Android experience that could bring about RAW image file support, according to new findings. What’s more, there also looks to be additional support for face detection and removable (perhaps modular) lenses.

Google would not be the first company to introduce RAW image support in a smartphone; Nokia already employs it in a few models. Given that Google’s default camera experience is less than perfect, we might hope that the APIs could be the start of something better.  Whatever the case, we are all about Google bringing new features and touches to the standard camera so that OEMs don’t have to bake in extra features – not that we mind, however.
