HTC Announced Release of 2.1 for GSM Hero

The long, way too long, wait for HTC GSM Hero users should be over soon. HTC Taiwan announced the release of 2.1 for this phone via their Plurk account. So… it should start today.  The CDMA version got the update just a couple of weeks ago but HTC has been pushing and pushing the GSM update, the last time we mentioned it was to announce a possible March released.

This is a great news for all the Hero users obviously but also for the Android platform because the HTC Hero was one of the last popular handset still with 1.5. We should see a noticeable change the next time Google releases their fragmentation report because the Hero has been a great success in Europe and Asia.

Now, what about 2.2?  Anyone care to bet how long it would take for HTC to release it?
